KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A strong Ray Guy Prokicker.com camp at Farragut High School yielded seven top prospects.
Ben Brown, a class of 2016 graduate from Signal Mouth, Tenn., showed great promise, according to lead instructor Matt Reagan.
Brown was the top kicker, kicker-punter combo and kickoff specialist. He was also rare – punting left-footed and kicking right-footed.
“I think I may have seen it once before … maybe,” Reagan said. “If I tried that, it wouldn’t go well.”
Brown charted 80 percent on field goals, missing only the 50-yard attempts “and not by much,” Reagan said. Kickoffs were solid but “I think he’s got more in him,” Reagan said.
Aside from working on hang time, Brown’s punting was solid, too, Reagan said.
Joseph Doyle (class of 2017) was the top punter and punter-kickoff specialist while Ben Hoffman (class of 2016) was the top long-snapper.
Long-snappers Hoffman and Dustin Nickle (class 2015) were put on the talent search by staff instructor Ben Fuller.
Fuller said Hoffman “has got some of the best potential I’ve seen” despite not charting all that well. “There’s something a little different when you look at him. He does a lot of things fundamentally right but he can be a whole lot better.”
Nickle, from Webb High School outside of Knoxville, threw a .69 snap – the top mark of the summer for Prokicker prospects.
“It’s the fastest one I’ve seen in awhile,” Fuller said. “He’s a real good size with good size, aboutg 245 pounds. He wants to play somewhere. I wish somebody would take a serious look at him.”
Nickle is a veteran of Prokicker camps, Fuller said.
Kickers Matt Seals (2016), Andrew Favaro )2017), Eli Holbert (2017) and Carter Phillipy (2016) were also listed as top prospects at the camp.
