Ray Guy Punting Instruction – How to Punt a Football – “Ball/Foot Impact” – Lesson 8
NFL Punting Legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ray Guy provides lessons and teaches fundamentals on “ball / foot impact” for punters wanting to self – coach when developing their skills. The punter should drive his punting foot squarely through the sweet spot of the football, with the leg straightening out naturally. At this point, the toe should be fully extended, depressed and pointing in the direction of the target area. The foot will generally contact the football at about the level of the support knee, though the contact point may vary with the individual, the weather, etc. At the moment of impact, the support leg will actually lock and generate power from the ground up.
