By Donovan Aird / The Tribune News At many high schools around the country, it can be typical for coaches to shy away from attempting field goals from longer than 35 yards. Not on the Central Coast — at least not this year. Coming into tonight, five San Luis Obispo County kickers have made field goals of at least 35 yards, and four additional non- county kickers in the PAC 7 and Los Padres leagues have also eclipsed that mark through the season’s first three weeks. Of course, towering above them all is Arroyo Grande High’s Garrett Owens. Owens, a…

Gamboa, 24, auditioned for the 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, as well as all four teams in the United Football League and all eight in the Canadian Football League. All told him they wanted someone who had kicked for another pro team. "That was the frustrating thing for me," Gamboa said. "How could I get experience when no…

First published by: Dan Albano Inspiring Trabuco Hills kicker Oleg Parent (6-0, 155) has committed to FCS North Carolina Central from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the senior announced. Parent, a second-team All-County pick, had several options - including a few preferred walk-ons at Division 1-A schools, but said he felt "absolutely at home" at North Carolina Central. "The coaching staff, facilities and players are amazing and it is relatively close to Washington, D.C. as I am considering a career in International Relations," Parent wrote in an e-mail. Oleg is Russian and his story is very inspiring.

Camargo had an average kickoff distance of 66.50 yards per kick which was 2nd nationally and #1 among kids from the West coast. He also had one kickoff that went 72.0 yards, which was also 2nd nationally and No. 1 among kids from the West…
