INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Former Saints kicker Morten Andersen made the rounds on radio row Friday. Andersen will be eligible for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame next year and is hopeful he can become another former New Orleans player in the hallowed Hall, according to the Times-Picayune
Rickey Jackson became the first Saints player to be inducted in 2009, and left tackle Willie Roaf joined him this season.
Andersen is the leading scorer in NFL history. He played 25 seasons for five NFL teams, including 13 years with the Saints.
“I don’t know about next year — first ballot — that would be tough,” he said. “But obviously I’m hopeful to one day make it, whether it takes one year or three years. It would be a great honor.”
Jan Stenerud, Lou Groza and George Blanda are the only kickers enshrined. Of those, Stenerud is the only pure kicker. Groza also played offensive tackle. Blanda played quarterback, linebacker and punter.
